The Pros and Cons of a Pet Fountain

Drinkwell pet drinking fountains have become popular with many animal owners for many good reasons.  While there are great benefits to owning one of these fountains, there are also some disadvantages that you need to be aware of before deciding to buy one yourself.

First, let’s cover some of the benefits of owning a pet fountain.  If you’ve ever let your pet drink running water from a faucet or hose, you have seen how much they love to drink running water.  Pet fountains provide a running waterfall throughout the day for your pet to enjoy.  These fountains also have good sized tanks to store the water so you may not have to refill it everyday like you do with a simple water bowl.  While dirty water may be a concern, it shouldn’t be a real worry because these fountains include a filtration system to keep the water clean for your pet.

While these advantages are wonderful, there are also some other considerations you should make before buying a fountain for your pet.  Because of all the small crevices in the fountain, you’ll need to clean it at least once a month, if not more often.  This can be a time consuming and frustrating process if you don’t have patience.  Another downfall of these fountains is that Drinkwell fountain replacements parts are hard to come by in stores.  You’ll likely need to order them online if they fail at any point.  Finally, if your pet creates a mess with a regular water bowl, watch out when you supply them with a drinking fountain.  Because of the size of the fountain tank, there is a lot more potential water to be spilled than your regular bowl.

As you can see, there are both benefits and downfalls of owning a pet fountain.  If you’re willing to overcome the obstacles of one, your pet will love having running water to drink throughout the day.
